Chapter XVI, Reading 10

Fighting the fear wasn't going to be easy. "Help me, Spirit! Show me a way to fight." She forced herself to relax and out of the recesses of her hidden knowledge came the answer. She could hide her mind in her crystal orb.
Flindra directed all her strength on connecting with the crystal sphere. Her mind was pulled across the barrier of time and space into the other reality. The orb drew her mind into it. A silky white light surrounded her. Peace and security bathed her consciousness. Her mind was now disconnected from the happenings of the world. Flindra was separated from the pain and the fear. It no longer existed in her mind. They couldn't reach her in this sanctuary of the crystal sphere. She was safe.
Flindra became distantly aware of the conversation taking place around her body in the other reality.
"The quana should have hold of her mind by now," said a voice Flindra recognized as belonging to Vetlok. "This shouldn't take very long. We will have all the information we need out of this girl."
"My Lord, do you think that these Rangers have guessed our purpose in the swamp?" an unfamiliar voice queried. "Lord Adak advised caution when he sent us the warning that the High Command was sending troops to seek out the truth."
Vetlok snorted in contempt. "Adak has an inflated opinion of what his silly Rangers can do. I'm not impressed when I see they are using a skinny slut for a scout."
"Then the invasion preparations continue on schedule?"
"They will continue unless I get some unnerving information from the girl, which I deem to be unlikely. She should be ready to answer our questions."
Vetlok knew that he could effectively wrest information from her by capitalizing on the fear the quana produced. Flindra's chin had dropped to her chest. He grabbed a handful of hair on the top of her head and forced her head back. He wanted to gain eye contact - it was the easiest way to work the fear.
