Chapter XVI, Reading 7

The ship docked at a hastily built wharf just at the entrance of the swamp. Flindra and Leitho were half-dragged, half-carried to a back room in a small building near the wharf.
In the sunshine, Flindra could see that Leitho had received a bad blow to the head. There was clotted blood matting his blond hair and a smear of blood had dried on his face. He moaned softly as he was roughly dropped on the floor.
When the door closed behind her captors, Flindra wiggled across the floor toward him. She whispered in his ear in an effort to reach him. "Leitho. Leitho can you hear me?"
"Flindra?" he responded weakly.
"It's me. Are you hurt badly?"
"My head..." Leitho stopped and drifted back into unconsciousness.
Flindra stared into the darkness as she tried to struggle out of her bonds. It was impossible to escape. The ropes around her wrists and ankles were so tight that she couldn't feel either her hands or feet. Rigga couldn't help much to ease her plight. If the shield had been stronger when they had trussed her up, she might have been able to keep the ropes looser. As it was, she had to try to ignore the pain.
She attempted to perform the breathing exercises that Kewero had taught her when she needed to relax. Flindra imagined herself taking in courage and strength with every inhaled breath and getting rid of fear and pain with every exhale. After several minutes of performing the exercise, she felt stronger. She continued in an attempt to build up her reserves but as she worked, sleep ambushed her before she knew it was with her.
